![]() ![]() Implementing a universal basic income would be extremely hard due to cost, but Bregman backs this argument up with cost savings and how it would save governments money on hospital and jail fees. It also showed how although someone is homeless, they still have dreams and aspirations and might just need a little help along the way. This study showed that these homeless people saved and spent the money on items that they needed. Many skeptics of this universal income would assume that people would spend their money on non-essential items leading people to stay in poverty. Throughout this book Bregman describes a study conducted in London where homeless people were given $3,000. Bregman highlights many cases and studies throughout the book supporting his claim that every individual should be given a basic income. This basic income will have many benefits especially tackling the problem of poverty.
